ALG53842 HPA Newsletter Spring 2016 - page 2

HPA has partnered with the Hamilton Police Service Marine Unit to launch a new boater awareness campaign this
spring. The campaign, dubbed ‘Operation Safe & Sober’ focuses on tips to stay safe while enjoying the water this
boating season. The campaign offers a refresher on safety practices all boaters should know, like wearing a life jacket,
and not drinking and boating.
The campaign also addresses an issue that is particularly relevant to Hamilton Harbour: how to safely share the
harbour with large commercial cargo ships.
The HPS Marine Unit and HPA’s Harbour Master’s Office/Port Patrol will be reaching out to recreational boaters on the
water and at the marina throughout the season.

Spring 2016
Harbour West has begun work on a new boat storage facility, which
will offer improved facilities and service to our customers. The new
space, with 40,000 sq.ft of heated indoor storage will be located at
a secure location at Pier 15, near Sherman Avenue. The new facility
will accommodate more and larger boats than Harbour West’s current
facilities, along with new maintenance and repair areas.
You will be hearing more from us about this development over the
course of the coming boating season. The new storage facility is
targeted for completion in time for 2016 fall storage.
The relocation of Harbour West’s boat storage is related to HPA’s
support of the City of Hamilton’s redevelopment of the Pier 7&8 lands.
Previously used for Harbour West’s long-term boat storage, the lands
at Piers 7&8 are being revitalized by the City with a range of mixed
use developments.

G3 Canada Limited celebrated the groundbreaking of its new terminal at the
Port of Hamilton on March 18. Board members and executives from G3 Canada
Limited, along with stakeholder guests, were on hand to mark the occasion.
Construction of the 50,000-tonne facility began last fall and is on schedule to
be completed in spring 2017. When complete, the facility will be able to ship
and receive grain via truck, rail and vessel.
“This facility will be a key component of our eastern footprint, and will provide
Ontario farmers, brokers and truckers with more choice, more market access,
competitive pricing and faster unload times for their grain. It’s all part of G3’s
vision to build a smarter path from farmers’ fields to global markets,” said Karl
Gerrand, CEO, G3 Canada Limited.
